A Few Handy IPhone Tips And Tricks

Friday, September 17th, 2010

The iPhone from Apple was an instant hit when it was released and it is a good bet that virtually all owners are very fond and attached to their powerful yet friendly device. One of the things that iPhone users are always looking for is new iPhone tips and tricks that help them uncover even more power and capability in their phone.

The Apple iPhone does so much more than any cell phone or smart phone that came before it or any others on the market now. There are many reasons for this, including the cutting edge technology built into and made possible by the iPhone developer teams at Apple.

Another major factor that contributes to the overall distinctiveness of the iPhone is the functions and tasks that the phone can do, which can be greatly extended by the thousands of iPhone application choices available. There is such a wide range of applications for this smart phone that there are almost limitless iPhone tips and tricks it can perform.

Of course, there are many iPhone tricks that can be done even before adding any additional apps to the device. One favorite iPhone tip is that you can take a screenshot of whatever is being displayed on the large screen of the phone. After you take an iPhone screenshot, you can find it in the Photos application under “camera roll.” From that point the screenshot is just like any other photo on your phone and you can email it or text it to someone.

Another nifty trick that is built right into the iPhone from the factory is the ability to quickly and easily access special keyboard characters. For instance, if you need to put an accent over an “e” when typing on the iPhone virtual keyboard, then just press and hold the “e” key. After a couple seconds a small window will pop up and present you with a number of choices of different types of accents for various languages. This even works with some special characters, such as the dollar sign, the question mark and the exclamation point.

If you have a special task that you want to be able to do with your iPhone, then there is a good chance you will find what you need in the App Store. You can get to the App Store through Apple’s iTunes software and once you are there you will be able to search for iPhone app choices to meet your needs. You can also look through the most popular apps, the newest apps, staff picks and the top free iPhone apps.

You will find without too much effort that there are lots of bloggers who love to find new iPhone tips and tricks and share them with their online readers. Once you find a blog that has lots of information on tips and tricks, it is a good idea to bookmark the site to check it out regularly or to add their RSS feed to your favorite news reader so you can always stay on top of the latest news and tips about your iPhone.

Understanding Cell Phone Radiation And How To Restrict Exposure To It

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Controversial studies have shown that cell phones emit radiation microwave signals that are either of low or high levels depending upon unit and frequency of use, leading to overexposure and cell degeneration or mutation. This issue is somewhat made worse by the fact that cell phone radiation can cause many other conditions such as migraines when used for long periods, leading to the conclusion that lengthened use exposes soft tissues near the ear to microwave signals that can harm cell structure.

Symptoms of radiation do not usually appear until twenty years or less after the initial large exposure to radiation emissions that are enough to cause such drastic effects on a human body. However, this study has been quite difficult as there are many other factors that play a part in the radiation exposure of an individual, not necessarily mobile phones alone.

With this being said, it is premature to instantly pinpoint cell phone radiation as the main cause for cell mutation in a person who uses his mobile frequently. Other factors have to be taken into consideration, as indicated above, that could have caused the mutation leading to such ailments as cancer and cellular atrophy.

Controversy or not, this is no excuse to pretend that it does not exist, and the use of these gadgets should be carefully monitored. Exposure to radiation emissions can be relatively reduced if recommended precautions are followed, especially if one has many concerns about the effect of consistent radiation feed into cellular structures.

Low-radiation phones can be researched on the internet, and this provides an option for a switch if the current phone that one is using happens to be marked in the high-radiation category. Many people cannot imagine going through their daily lives without the mobile in hand, so this is an option that can be considered by the cautious yet modernized user.

Using the mobile speaker functions on some modern mobile units can greatly reduce the emissions sent out by the phone, and allow for ease of use with less worries. For those whose phones do not have this feature or option, talking with the phone away from the ear will help reduce the radiation exposure.

Using a wired headset accessory or a plastic hollow tube earpiece device can greatly reduce radiation that is emitted from the phone. The use of wireless Bluetooth earpieces can also emit microwave radiation aside from the phone on a continuous basis even when not in use, so be sure to remove this or consistently transfer from one ear to another in order to reduce radiation waves being fed to one side of the head only.

Avoiding having to place the phone close to the ear all the time by sending text messages as an alternative for times when information is quick and no long response is necessary. Radiation emission from the cell phone happens when the user is talking and the unit needs to transmit the signals out.

Avoidance of long distance or overseas phone calls using the mobile phone is also a way of reducing exposure to radiation. A weak phone signal is also cause for a phone to work harder at transmitting a signal, therefore emitting more radiation microwaves. It is best to just refrain from using the mobile during situations when signals are weak.

Information On The IPhone 4

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

For awhile, no smartphone manufacturers held a candle to Apple and its iPhone. As time went on, companies realized that their existence would depend on keeping up with smartphone technology and spent time and money improving their own models. As the gap has closed, Apple felt the pressure to remain ahead of the competition, and has answered their competitors’ handsets with the iPhone 4.

The successor to the 3GS, the iPhone 4 has some improved innards that improve performance. Apple’s A4 chip powers the iPhone 4, which happens to be the same one found in the iPad. Though not quite as fast as the 1GHz claimed by the iPad, the iPhone 4’s CPU still performs admirably. Graphics and navigation are rendered quickly and it would seem that anyone with serious speed complaints is merely nitpicking.

Viewing those graphics is accomplished on a 3.5 inch screen. Though not as large as screens found on some comparable models, the iPhone features what is known as the Retina Display. It boasts 960 x 640 pixel resolution and an incredible 326 ppi pixel density. So named because it reportedly displays images in more detail than even the human eye can distinguish, Retina more than makes up for any lack of screen size. Due to the incredible resolution, blurry and pixilated images are of no concern at all. Many testers of the iPhone 4 claim that they have never seen images so clear on any other handset.

It almost wouldn’t be worth having the Retina Display if the iPhone 4 possessed the 3 megapixel camera of past models. There are no worries here, because it doesn’t. The iPhone 4 has upgraded to a 5 megapixel camera that includes a backside-illuminated sensor with improved sensitivity to light. Also featured is an LED flash, although it can blow out some photos, a symptom not uncommon in flashes of this kind. It really is not that big of a deal, because the camera takes great pictures in low light and without a flash.

Multitasking finally makes an appearance on an Apple smartphone with the iPhone 4. Technically, the phone doesn’t offer true backgrounding, but it does allow a few APIs to operate at the same time that imitate backgrounding. For those who are looking for typical use, it presents no problem at all. Apple claimed that their reluctance to embrace multitasking abilities was due to the battery strain it would put on the phone. iPhone 4 users will not find battery life a problem at all, as some tests have produced nearly 40 hours of regular use on one charge.

The iPhone 4 has placed Apple at the forefront of smartphone technology once again. Featuring a Retina Display unmatched in the industry and improved performance over older models, Apple’s iPhone 4 is a standard setter. Customers will be thankful for the efforts.

3 High-Tech Features Of The Apple Iphone

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

What’s the big deal behind the Apple iPhone? It’s expensive. It’s revolutionary. But are its features worth the money?

With all the popularity, you can assume everyone’s at least heard about it. What does the Apple iPhone feature and what can it do?

#1: Multi-Touch Technology

The most outstanding feature is the iPhone’s radical multi-touch screen. The MT screen allows any mechanical button to appear on this high tech toy. It simply allows you to use your fingers to operate it. This is contrary to any other phone today, which either have mechanical keyboards or a stylus.

By tapping the screen with your finger, you can navigate menus, dial phone numbers, write e-mail messages and likewise use the whole functionality of the popular gadget. The three-point-five-inch screen displays a keyboard for inputting text via multi-touch. Most consumers are seemingly skeptical about typing with the virtual keyboard, but Apple has predicted the common problems and has made sure the iPhone was constructed with features like automatic spell check and word prediction, not to mention an enhanced customizable dictionary. More so, the iPhone addresses the problems of typos commonly known to multi-touch usage by adding self-correction capabilities.

When scrolling, the usual wheel is not found at the side of the gadget. The multi-touch screen functionality allows its owner to scroll by dragging a finger in the desired direction. The speed of scrolling is designed to be proportional to the speed at which you drag your finger.

The multi-touch feature furthermore enables several more functions like multi-touch sensing for magnifying or reducing photos and even web pages. Using this feature, you can regulate object size simply by placing two fingers at the side of the object and then moving them, by dragging, either further apart or closer to one another. This feature does not distort images because images are initially scaled according to its original dimensions in the first place.

Hands down, the iPhone is more intelligent than any other phone today.

#2: Revolutionary Sensors

The gadget’s sensors have the ability to detect changes to the iPhone’s environment. The sensors are minuscule yet absurdly powerful. The three major sensors include an accelerometer, sensor for ambient light, and a proximity sensor.

The accelerometer sensor conveys the ability to detect any changes in the iPhones positioning. …The iPhone’s screen display will actually rotate to portrait or landscape, while still packing its contents into the 3.5-inch screen. Because it changes the view according to ratio, images are not distorted among web pages, videos, or photos.

The proximity sensors.

These high-tech features detect the location of the iPhone with regard to the skin. When you make a call and hold the iPhone up against your ear, the display will automatically set to standby. This is important in that it serves two basic functions.

One, by shutting off the display when not necessarily needed, this saves your battery’s life. More so, this avoids accidental touches to the screen, which would otherwise be sensitive. As soon as the cell is moved away from your face, the proximity sensors react in this way.

Ambient light sensor.

Through the AL sensor, changes in the phone’s environment are detected and instantaneously adjust the display’s brightness. Your iPhone’s display will always be well adjusted in regard to lighting.

#3: Mac OS X Operating System

The hype behind the Apple iPhone increased when Mac fans found out the Mac OS X would be included. The Mac OS X is the operating system inside the latest Apple computers. On the other hand, the electronic doesn’t have the complete functionality of the operating system. The entire OS X is too large to fit within the 4GB or 8GB internal memory. The iPhone contains a 500 MB version of the operating system.

It is very easy to install an iPhone skin onto your smartphone. They are all pretty much the same with pieces that either slide together or snap into place. They generally will have front and back covers which display the image or style you chose or uploaded. They will also have side covers as well. Most skins are made from rigid, durable plastics or metals, to help add sturdiness to the iPhone skin’s as well as the iPhone itself.

My Treasured IPhone Apps

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Any owner of the iPhone most definitely loves the different apps and games. I often find myself getting immersed in the hundreds of different games available. Never before has a phone been so much fun.

The library of games available for download continues to grow, and each month I see some great new additions to the list. By the time you read this article, I’ll probably have moved on to some more great iPhone games. Either way, these are some games that are definitely worth checking out. I’m going to give you three that I think you’ll enjoy.

1. Paper toss. This is a really fun game that requires you to throw a piece of paper into a garbage while inside an office. It sounds simple in nature, and it is, but it’s really challenging too. Many others seem to share my opinion, as it’s one of the top downloads.`

The best part about this game is the enemy that stands in your way. The enemy here is an office fan that blows your paper in different directions. Since you can see its speed in advance, it becomes a challenge to accurately get the throw right.

2. ESPN’s Cameraman. This is a great game that’s just like the photo hunt game you’ve probably played in bars. Playing against a timer, you must recognize the differences in two pictures before the timer runs out. It’s incredibly fun.

All of the questions are sports-themed, and they’re really challenging too. I would definitely look into this one if it sounds like it may appeal to you.

3. Scramble. This game is just like Boggle, only you can play it online against over 100 people all at once. I love the idea of competing against others, which makes this game extremely addicting once you take the pride factor into consideration.

Try any of these games out. Based on their overall popularity, I have a feeling you’ll enjoy them very much.

When Should You Make Your Own Interesting Cell Phone Web Apps?

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

When you think about the penetration of the smart cell phone into the consumer market, and the huge range of uses that people put their phones to, it is not surprising that there is a huge market in cell phone apps.

So it is no surprise that many technically savvy people want to tap into that market, and try their hand at fashioning their own applications. After all, many of these apps can be quite simple, with fewer ‘moving pieces’ than a typical computer application, and so are less demanding to create.

The way that you would have to approach this, until recently, is develop your idea of an app, and target it at one of the more popular smart phone platforms (Win Mo, Blackberry or Apple’s iPhone). If your app is good enough, and has strong appeal to users of those phone, you have good prospects of making a decent return on your effort.

These phone platforms do, after all, have a very large penetration of the smarty phone market. But creating your own applications for these phones is not trivial. You will in fact have to have some determination, and decent programming skills, to be successful.

First you will have to register with the company who make the platform your target phone uses. They want to ensure apps on their cell phones will meet certain standards. Once registered, get hold of the software development kit from the internet. These should contain all the tools you need to test and develop your app.

Then, once it is ready, you must pass the app over to the platform vendor, so they can verify it, before it is allowed to be marketed on their website. A pretty tall order for what could be a simple idea.

There is, however, a new kid on the block. Google has developed it’s own platform, called Android, that many of the new generation of smart phone are using. And that has App Inventor, a unique tool for cell phone app creation. It is simple enough to use that it may usher in a new era in user based app development, which can only be a good thing.

The IPhone 4 – Apple’s New Flagship Phone

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

The Apple iPhone 4 has a design that really sets it apart from the competition. Its slim design is even thinner than the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 4 measures 9.3mm deep while the iPhone 3GS measures 12.3 mm deep, making it about 24% less in size. The iPhone 4 measures 59mm to 62mm side to side, making it narrower than the 3GS as well. Although the weight is the same at 136g, the changes in the iPhone 4’s dimensions make it less bulky than the 3GS.

All of these aesthetic changes in design are welcome, but the improvements found in the Apple iPhone 4 don’t end there. It’s what is found inside the phone that really illustrates the technological improvements. The Apple iPhone 4 possesses a 3.5-inch display just like the 3GS. It is the improved resolution of the 960 x 640 pixel, IPS display that distinguishes the iPhone 4. The 326 pixels per inch create the highest resolution ever found on a phone.

The new ‘Retina’ display, so called because it is made up of more of pixels than the human retina can process, significantly improves the sharpness and clarity of images. The phone’s screen also uses the same in-plane switching (IPS) techniques as are used on the screens you will find on iMacs and iPads. Consequently, not only is the display bright and colorful, it has a massive viewing angle, meaning that it looks great no matter which way you hold it or which angle you are looking at it from.

The Apple iPhone 4 contains the company’s A4 CPU. This is the same processor found in the Apple iPad. Running on the iOS 4 operating system, a number of capabilities are available to the Apple iPhone 4. The recently renamed iOS 4 provides the long-awaited multitasking function. Just as with the welcome and long awaited copy and paste feature, Apple has come through by making the multitasking feature operate without a hitch.

The iPhone 4 sees big advances with the camera as well. The primary camera on the back has been upgraded from 3 megapixels to 5 megapixels, yet manages to retain the same pixel size. The camera now also comes with a backlit sensor, an LED flash, and a 5x zoom. You can shoot in high-definition, at 720p, 30 fps. In addition, the video recording feature gains the tap-to-focus feature that was only previously already for taking photos.

Owners of the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G will certainly want to make the jump to the Apple iPhone 4. Previously, with the advance of the iPhone 3G to the 3GS, Apple focused on small enhancements in performance. With the iPhone 4, digital imaging was the priority as well as the display. These encompassing augmentations make the iPhone 4 the phone to beat.

Do You Want Cell Phone Apps Become Customizable

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

When smart phones first became available, among the things that sold them to the general public was the fact that they could readily be made more feature rich by cell phone apps. And what is meant by an app?

Nothing more than application, of course, which is to say software for your phone that makes it more customizable. Apps actually change where cell phones fit in your life, making them so much more than just communication devices. In fact downloading applications to your phone takes it to place never imagined by the phone service operator.

Up until the recently, phone applications were something you bought and downloaded for your phone. Your cell service provider would have reams of these available for you to purchase on their website. Maybe they even had links to third party apps. But the important thing was that all of these applications were created by software developers.

What changed things drastically is the arrival of Android, Google’s new operating system. This has a nifty little feature that changes the game completely – it allows you to become an app designer. You don’t have to put up with how some developer thinks your application should work – you design it, it works how you want.

So how does ‘App Inventor’, the program Google have put on Android to do this, turn you into an application developer? It works because it reduces programming to some simple steps, using obvious units of the cell phone’s functionality. And as a result cuts out the middle man, and puts you in charge of making apps that you want.

So what would you want to put into your new app? Maybe you need to reverse that- what couldn’t you put in? Because all of the advanced features of a smart phone have been made available. So you can use camera and video, GPS functionality, motion sensors, speech to text units in building your dream application.

Undoubtedly the addition of the capability to make cell phone apps is something on the urgent to do list of Apple, Blackberry and Microsoft’s Win Mo development teams.

If you have a favorite or useful cell phone app, you are probably happy to share it with family members. Owners share and trade cell phone applications for best use of the devices.
